Dakota Mojo Monday!

For those of you that stopped by earlier…I managed to submit my entry to Mojo Monday within about five minutes of the deadline.  Imagine my surprise when I went back and saw that three other entries managed to enter with even less time left on the clock!  I started my card about 7pm, so I had a little less than an hour to complete it.  Most cards can be completed and photographed within an hour……..but, maybe this is not the time to make custom embellishments!  Let alone custom embellishments that you decide to dye!  Then just throw in some hand stitching for fun!  I do like the end result….and might have added more to it, had the clock not been ticking so quickly!  Here is the original sketch design.

So, glancing at my photos, I am sure you are wondering…where are the custom dyed embellishments?  Here is a hint…it is my border strip.  In the end I covered half of it up!  If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you know I love burlap.  I wanted the fringe look of burlap for my card….but not the color of burlap.  I dye ribbon all the time, so why not burlap?  I dyed the burlap the same way as I do most of my ribbon.  I added some reinker and a little water to a baggie and worked the ink into the fibers by hand and then let air dry.  (Ok, I cheated, I used the heat gun…who has time for burlap to air dry when you have less than an hour to get the whole card posted!)

My decorative circles were cut with the Cricut Art Philosophycartridge.  I then added some black opaque gems for a little bling.  My black banner has a string of barb wire embossed into it.  The barb wire border came with the cool chicken wire embossing folder I used here. Many of you asked where I purchased the chicken wire embossing folder.  I purchased mine at cricut.com.  It was shown on a new release a few weeks ago and I had to have it.  I am sure you will see it at major retailers soon.

  2. Oh you, how clever! At first glance, I wanted to pop right on and say what a fantastic card, but it would have been even more perfect with that touch of burlap I expect from you … then I slowed down, read further, and said to myself, what? Where? Thank you for not disappointing me! This is a perfect western dude card!!

  3. Wow! What a beautifully done card. I am a very slow cardmaker, I could never made a card with all the neat details that you have on your card…In an hours…more like days…
