Make the Cards Challenge #46

Welcome back to the Make the Cards Challenge! We took a break over the holidays and are back with a new schedule. Our challenges will now run for two weeks to give you more time to create! Our challenge this week is a theme challenge, we want to see your cards of encouragement. All products are welcome, so come join in on the fun!

How cute is this cow image? Being totally honest, I would not call myself a cow fan! Fairly certain this is the first cow stamp in my stamp collection! The Udderly Wonderful stamp set is a new release featured in the January/February Close To My Heart catalog. While I do not consider myself a cow fan….I do live surrounded by ranches with lots of cows. This is probably why I am not a huge fan. Being stuck behind a cattle drive and the driving hazards of open range can sometimes leave a lot to be desired. It can get crazy dark at night and black cows just love to hang out on the highway! If you are not familiar with the term open range….it basically means, we have no fences and the animals have the right of way! Regardless of my feelings for cows, it was love at first sight for this stamp set! Here is a look at the complete stamp set-

With my limited cow knowledge, I decided the image looked a lot like a jersey cow and did my best to color her realistically. The image was stamped in Intense Black ink and then colored with Prismacolor pencils. The pencils were then blended with Gamsol. The image was cut with the coordinating Thin Cut die. This stamp set is available with or without the coordinating dies. The completed image was mounted with 3-D foam tape for added dimension. Cows are a huge part of my community, so I will be getting a lot of use out of this set!

My card came together by combining a few challenges. My colors were chosen from the color challenge at The Paper Players. I chose brown as my neutral color and used Peach, Papaya and Juniper to follow along with the challenge colors. It is hard to tell in the photos, but a little bit of bling was added with a shimmer brush to the flowers. The layout of my card follows the sketch challenge at Try Stampin on Tuesday. My cow image was popped up against a vellum circle to follow along with the sketch design.

  1. Oh Allisa this is AWESOME! Your ‘jersey’ coloring is PERFECT! I was raised on a small farm and we had beef cattle where my Aunt & Uncle had the Holstein & Jersey milking cows. But, we had ours fenced in so didn’t have to deal with the open fencing issue! We don’t have to worry much about hitting a cow on the road … ours is more the worry of hitting DEER! They are everywhere! LOL
Great job, awesome inspiration … thanks for the instant smile!!

    • Thank you! We are Highland Cow fans too! My neighbors just got a few and plan on having Highland babies…how cute will those be! I so love this cow stamp and might try to be a little artistic and draw in some hair to give it a Highland appearance!
