The Paper Players #498

Happy Sunday!  I hope everyone is recovering from the July 4th festivities! Ann is hosting a new challenge for us this week at The Paper Players, Fun and Fancy Folds.  This was truly a challenge for me….as you will rarely see me venture pass your basic card shapes.  While I love adding layers to my cards….they are usually all featured on one side!  I hope you will accept the challenge and come join us!

Since Fun and Fancy Folds are not in my normal tool box of toys….I ventured out to Google to see what caught my eye.  While, I love many of the free standing fun folding designs…..I do actually mail  my cards and don’t want them to appear possibly confusing to the recipient.  I went with a design featured on Michelle’s blog at Owl Star Stampers.  I went with this style of card, because it is super simple and allows me to add as many layers as I please!  Now, to the next challenging part….photographing said card!

The card actually opens from the right and the left.  I inked up the new Fabulous Flamingo stamp set and paired it with the Brushed Paper Collection.  The fun mix of pinks and greens was perfect for a tropical scene.  I stamped my flamingo in Intense Black ink and added color with Copics.  The flamingo was popped up with 3-D foam tape for added dimension.  I stamped my greenery frame with Fern ink, slightly overlapping the images.  I added in water at the bottom with Lagoon ink, sponging on additional ink to soften my stamped waves.  Here is a look at the complete stamp set-

This set is available with or without Thin Cut dies….I highly recommend the Thin Cuts…especially for those flamingo legs!  The card opens up to additional layers on the inside.  There is also plenty of room to add a gift card.

My inside sentiment is from the exclusive stamp set featured in the Craft with Heart cardmaking subscriptions.  The sentiment was perfect to coordinate with my You are Fabulous sentiment on the front.  We certainly need more fabulous people to spread some world kindness at the moment!

My favorite part about this card, it folds up to a standard A2 sized card!  No special envelopes or postage needed!  The base layer is 4 1/4″ by 8 1/2″, scored at 3″.  The inner base is 3″ x 8″, scored at 4″.  You can easily downsize the measurements to add as many layers as you would like.

  4. I'm with you I rarely make fun fold cards any more, but this is one I have used before, and I really like it. Your card is fabulous with the handsome flamingo and bright, tropical papers, plus wonderful sentiments! Totally gorgeous Allisa!

  5. I love this card! The colors, obviously! and you chose the perfect image to go with that beautiful paper. It will be fun for the recipient to unfold and find the message hidden inside. My hint for photographing cards that want to pop open is to close them with a little temporary adhesive, then remove it when I've finished taking the picture.

Thanks for Celebrating Summer with our Color Palette at Cut it Up!
